3D Dome: Drawn in AutoDesk Inventor and exported to MiniCAM for code creation. Raster machined with a ball-ended cutter, the cusps resulting from this machining strategy can be seen. The nearer a surface approaches the vertical, the more pronounced the cusps become. The cusps could be made smaller if passes of the tool were closer together and shallower but the price is a considerable increase in machining time. MiniCAM (and MillWizard) have few machining options but they are easy to set up. Programs, such as AlphaCAM, offer experienced machinists many surface machining strategies.
