Billet Length

Do not try to machine a part from a billet of material which you just hope will be long enough.

If it is too long, the first touch of the tool may make it escape from the chuck, fly across the room and injure someone.

If it is too short, the tool will hit the chuck during machining and serious damage may result.

The billet length needs to be calculated carefully. The WELturn main menu has an item called
"Find out about Billet lengths". Study it.

Long and/or slender billets need to be supported by the tailstock. This needs very careful setting up.
