AlphaCAM, the Part and the Billet

In AlphaCAM and other CADCAM software, draw the half profile of the part beginning from the X = 0, Z = 0 position.

Now draw the half profile of a suitable diameter billet round the part half profile. Begin the billet half profile at X = 0, Z = 1.

Now move the part and billet half profiles together, to the left, so that the centre of the right hand end of the billet is moved from X = 0, Z = 1 to X = 0, Z = 0.

Now create the tool paths.

Explanation:

it is much easier to draw the part profile beginning at X = 0, Z = 0;

WELturn expects the centre of the end of the billet to be at X = 0, Z = 0.

Note that this method leaves 1mm on the end of the billet for facing off. A smaller amount can be left, if desired.
