Spindle Speeds - Emco Compact 5 PC
This lathe has six spindle speeds, 200, 330, 550, 950, 1500 and 2400 revs/min. The speeds are given by various belt and pulley settings. These speeds are nominal values and should be used when setting the machining parameters in AlphaCAM, other CADCAM software or in manually created NC code. Just before machining begins, WELturn checks to see that the spindle is rotating at the speed set in the NC code. If the speed is incorrect, WELturn gives you the option of continuing with the incorrect speed or stopping to change to the correct one.
The actual spindle speeds differ from the nominal values. For example, when measured, the nominal 200 revs/min is actually around 230 revs/min. If you wish, the measured values can be reported by WELturn in the Check the Spindle Speed display. To set this option, click on File - Settings - Spindle Speed - Display Measured Values.
This ability to measure the spindle speed is essential for accurate screw cutting. WELturn automatically measures the speed and uses it to calculate the feed rate which will give the required thread pitch.
