Plunge and Parting Tool Widths

When you measure the offsets for one of these tools you are asked to enter the width of the tool tip. Make the measurement with a micrometer. This information is used in two ways:
  • it ensures that the real-time machining display is correct;
  • it ensures that a part is dimensionally correct when it is machined from code, prepared manually, which uses the G86 grooving cycle.
    ·
    NC code created by AlphaCAM and other CADCAM software takes account of the tool width. AlphaCAM knows the tool width from the drawing of the tool profile which was used when the tool was defined.

    When NC code is prepared manually the tool widths will be required as data for the G86 Grooving Cycle.
