Canned Cycles
These cycles are used when NC code is created manually.
Imagine the common situation where the end of a billet has to be turned down to a small diameter. Code to do this job, as created by AlphaCAM and similar software, is "linear". That is, it consists of many lines of G0 and G1 commands. By contrast, a canned cycle is a single line of code which, in effect, says "Start cutting here, finish cutting there, remove the material with cuts that are so deep and use this cutting feed rate". The lathe controller, WELturn, takes the information in such a single line of code and calculates from it all the tool movements to do the job.
