Lathe Tools

The tool profiles shown in Set the Tool Offsets tool library in WELturn are those of the Plansee Tizit tools supplied with Emco lathes. The numbering of the tools is:

  1 Right hand tool
  2 Left hand tool
  3 Neutral tool
  4 External threading tool
  5 Plunge tool
  6 Parting tool
7 Internal threading tool (minimum bore diameter 14mm)
8 Boring tool (minimum bore diameter 14mm)

And in addition, for the Emco Compact 5CNC lathe with an automatic tool change turret

  9 Centre Drill
10 Small Drill
11 Large Drill

Exactly identical tool profiles and numbering must be defined in AlphaCAM: see the Define Tool option in the AlphaCAM Machine menu. Drawings of the tool profiles are supplied with WELturn and are in AlphaCAM and DXF formats. They can be found in C:\WELturn\WELturn Allsorts\Lathe Tool Drawings

In AlphaCAM, use of an accurate tool profile when defining a tool ensures that correct NC code is generated for a part and that the tool can reach every point on the part without fouling it.

In WELturn, use of the same tool numbering ensures that, if a tool change is needed during machining, the correct offset value for the new tool is used. Also, the on-screen simulation of machining shows the part with the correct profile.

It is possible to use tools with other profiles, a button tipped tool - its tip is a disk - for example. See the topic in this Help file called Other Lathe Tools.
