Speeds and Feeds for High Speed Steel (HSS) Tools
When defining tools in AlphaCAM and/or other code-creating software, if you choose a Fixed Feed and Fixed Speed option (if there is one), the following feeds and speeds are suggested for free-cutting aluminium:
40mm shell cutter 1600rpm, 100mm/min
3mm slot drill 2000rpm, 100mm/min
6mm slot drill 2000rpm, 120mm/min
10mm slot drill 2000rpm, 150mm/min
For other materials, refer to model engineering handbooks or web sites for suitable speeds and feeds. Industrial speeds and feeds will be too high for this small Emco mill and will assume that coolant is being flooded over the work and tool.
As a general rule, try to use free cutting metals.
